Independence Day: Where to Celebrate 4th of July with a Drink in Denver
Nothing is more American than rooting for your favorite sports team as they make a run for the playoffs. This 4th of July all three Denver summer teams will be in town so grab your rally caps and head on out to the ball park, pitch or stadium to cheer on the city’s best. Don’t like sports? Fear not, we’ve got music lovers and thrill seekers covered too.
Colorado Rockies: In a heated battle for the National League West wildcard, the Colorado Rockies will play a four-game series against division rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers July 3-6 with fireworks after both the July 3 and July 4 games. Before the game, be sure to stop by the Sandlot for some Blue Moon Brewery beers or head up to the Rooftop for a Purple Margarita. Remember the margarita limit at the stadium is two because they are quite strong. Rockpile tickets start at only $4 and rooftop deck tickets (standing only) start at $16.
Colorado Rapids: Need a live soccer fix while the USA plays in the World Cup? For sports fans of world football, your Colorado Rapids will take on the Columbus Crew Friday, July 4, with fireworks after the game. The game starts at 7:30 PM and is at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. Tickets start at $29.
Denver Outlaws: In just eight seasons, the Denver Outlaws lacrosse team has been making a name for themselves as the only Major League Lacrosse team in the West. It doesn’t hurt that they play in Sports Authority Field at Mile High, home of the Broncos, either. The Outlaws July 4 game is against the Boston Cannon and will feature fireworks afterward. Tickets are start at $26.
Elitch Gardens: Enjoy some family fun at Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park for the 4th of July. The Gardens will host a spectacular fireworks show after the sun goes down. While the kids have fun on the rides or in the pool, adults can hang at the Blue Moon Beer Garden or Draughtworks taproom with some tasty Colorado brews. With the park’s own RTD Light Rail stop, no one has to drive downtown either.
Hudson Gardens: Start your holiday weekend with TWO special shows at Hudson Gardens. Glitter rock out to Super Diamond on Thursday, July 3, complete with fireworks after the show. Then on Friday, July 4, see Colorado’s own Firefall also with fireworks. Tickets are $21. Ticket holders are allowed to bring in their own food for pre-concert picnics, but bottled water is the only drink from outside allowed in. Hudson Gardens will have food trucks from Street Eats and beer and wine for sale on site.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre: Red Rocks always has great 4th of July shows and this year the area is time traveling back to the 90s. July 4th features Denver favorite Blues Traveler with Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth and Uncle Kracker. All that great music in one show? That’s genius! Tailgating is allowed in the parking lots, however, the amphitheater also serves a fantastic variety of Colorado craft beers and spirits inside.
Denver 4th of July Drink Specials
Tamayo in Larimer Square is offering $5 Stars N’ Stripes margaritas and an Independence Day brunch from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. You should be able to see the fireworks from Sports Authority Field and Elitch Gardens from Tamayo’s rooftop deck in the evening.
Central Bistro in the Highlands is offering up the $10 "Big Bang" Boxcar Burger and Beer special. Get a Boxcar Burger with friends and a 12 oz. Utica Club beer. Get there early for a table on the patio where Coors Field, Elitch Gardens and Sports Authority Field fireworks should all be visible.
The Bark Bar in West Highlands is wants to celebrate the holiday with our four-legged friends. Enjoy a backyard BBQ with $1 off draft, wine and well spirit drinks along with free hot dogs (for the humans, not the dogs).
