Neighborhood Bar Crawl: Brewer's Hill

Is there a better name for a place to bar hop in Baltimore than Brewer’s Hill? Previously home to Gunther Brewery and National Brewery (the original producer of National Bohemian, known as Natty Boh in Charm City), the small neighborhood encompassed by Fleet, Haven, Dillon and Conkling Streets sports a solid selection of bars in which to imbibe.

This upscale corner spot is as appropriate for happy hour or late night drinks as it is for date night. Sip craft cocktails, wine from their impressive list, or a brew in the expansive dining area on either of their two floors, or outside when its warm. (938 S Conkling St; 443-388-9363)

Everyone knows that brunch without booze is just a sad breakfast. Since Huck’s serves breakfast all day (in addition to a variety of regional dishes from across the US like Wisconsin cheese curds, Texas Frito pie, and Minnesota Juicy Lucys) they also offer a long list of cocktails and a half dozen crushes. Twenty draught beers and over forty bottles and cans also grace the drink menu in addition to a solid selection of American wines. (3728 Hudson St; 443-438-3380)

Quality cocktails with creative names (we’re looking at you, Rye’N Gosling and Cardi-BEE) are the top reason to stop into Gunther & Co. but their lengthy liquor, beer, and wine lists are an excuse to stay. The chic space with exposed brick and a living wall feels upscale yet comfortable. (3650 Toone St; 443-869-6874)

KP is a classic and comfortable Baltimore corner bar with affordable drinks and bar food. Many summer Sundays there are $3 crabs to crack, and happy hour lasts from 2 - 7 pm Monday through Thursday. (801 S Conkling St; 410-534-9701)

Featuring a large selection of Stillwater beers by nomad brewer Brian Strumke, as well as a wide range of creative cocktails (including their “breakdowns” - an offering of a beer or cider and a shot of liquor) this Brewer’s Hill bar also offers quality bar bites including charcuterie and cheese and chicken liver mousse as well as sandwiches and entrees. (1028 S Conkling St; 410-327-0760)
