Where and What to Drink for National Martini Day

Should you need a reason to justify indulging your thirst for gin or vodka, the fact that Thursday, June 19 has been designated National Martini Day is as good of an excuse as you’re going to get. Whether you prefer yours shaken, stirred, dirty or garnished with a twist of lemon, Philadelphia’s bars offer a diverse array of the classic cocktail. Check out some of Drink Philly’s favorites below. And if you know of one that should be included, give us a shout on Facebook or Twitter.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a bottle of vodka behind the bar this Center City cocktail parlor, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a Martini. Franklin Mortgage goes the more traditional route, serving a classic version made with gin and dry vermouth.

Ela (627 S 3rd St.; 267-687-8512)
Ela barkeeps Maria Polise and Zachary Svoboda offer Divine Intervention (pictured right) as their take on the classic Martini. It’s made with Uncle Val's Botanical gin, Lillet, Regan’s Orange bitters, simple syrup and lavender.

Chestnut Hill’s Mica serves a tequila-based variation called Berry on the Hill. Far from traditional, it combines Tequila, Drambuie, strawberry and fresh lime juice.

For the purists, OG Continental in Old City offers its tried and true Continental Martini, made with Tito’s Vodka and dry vermouth.
