Bars with Fireplaces in Washington, D.C.

Winter is coming. Don’t be left out in the cold when the next polar vortex rolls in to D.C. From outdoor winter lounges to cozy dining rooms and everything in between, sidle up to these fireplaces (or fire pits) and enjoy a few hot beverages, because nothing says winter like imbibing by an open flame.

Biergarten Haus: This H Street staple has a fireplace in the covered patio as well as fire pits throughout the Biergarten. Guzzle down beers by the liter or try the house made gluhwein and hot ciders, available all season long. (1355 H St. NE; 202-388-4085)

Brixton: Looking for a winter getaway but don’t have the funds? Head to the second floor of this British pub, complete with fireplaces, inviting leather couches and wall decor reminiscent of an English hunting lodge. Mulled wine will be on the menu throughout the chilly winter months. (901 U St. NW; 202-560-5045)

Iron Gate: Occupying a space that was formerly a stable, this Dupont Circle restaurant has plenty of cozy options to keep you warm. Dine indoors in the main room by the brick fireplace or sit al fresco in the courtyard decked out with heat lamps and candles. Try the aptly named cocktail Smoke Gets in Your Eye (all whilst hoping that doesn’t actually happen by the fire) made with Old Overholt Rye, Los Amantes Mezcal, Cocci Vermouth, Averna and Habanero Bitters. (1734 N St. NW; 202-524-5202)

Poste: From Thursday–Saturday, Poste’s upper patio will be transformed into a Winter Lounge. Although the space is without a fireplace, there will no shortage of coziness with fire pits, blankets and warm seasonal cocktails including a maple bourbon toddy. Pair your drink with four different skewer options from the Winter Lounge food menu (mushroom and scallion, spicy chicken, bulgogi beef and shrimp). The best part? Complimentary s’mores. (555 8th St. NW; 202-783-6060)

Rustico: Known for its extensive beer list, grab a seat by the gas fireplace and enjoy seasonal favorites including Potter’s Hopped Cider or DC Brau’s Stone of Arbroath. Snack on rib-sticking menu specials that will warm you up from the inside out: pretzel-weck bites with beer cheese dipping sauce and grilled pork chop with herbed spaetzle. (4075 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA; 571-384-1820)

Sea Catch: The main dining room of this Georgetown restaurant features a stone fireplace with wood paneling: a comfortable backdrop for dinner or drinks. Monday–Friday from 5–7 PM, enjoy half price drinks and $1 oysters. (1054 31st St. NW; 202-337-8855)

Zaytinya: Head to Jose Andres’ Mediterranean outpost to sample Turkish, Greek and Lebanese-inspired small plates while sipping on ouzo by the modern fireplace. (701 9th St. NW; 202-638-0800)
