Flying Dog Brewery — 52 miles from downtown
Though Flying Dog began in Colorado in 1990, it’s been a staple of Maryland craft beer since it started operations at its main brewery in Frederick in 2006. Lucky us. If you want to make a visit, the brewery strongly recommends reservations for tours. There’s no surprise to Flying Dog’s popularity once you’ve tried the Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA (8.3%) or Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout (5.5%). Flying Dog is the pride of Maryland beer, and a trip to this brewery is certain to get you in a good mood. (4607 Wedgewood Blvd., Frederick, MD; 301-694-7899)
