BBQ and Brew: Mission BBQ Opens in Canton Crossing
With the massive Canton Crossing shopping center opening throughout October, we've been drawn to the food and beverage additions on the edge of Brewer’s Hill. This past Friday we checked out the sneak preview event for Mission BBQ and quickly added this authentic American BBQ to our local faves list.
Choosing between the mouthwatering list of BBQ options is the first hurdle you must pass in your dining adventure here. From the moist brisket to the pulled pork and ribs, every meat is smoked in one of two large smokers in the kitchen, with results that are absolutely delicious. The smoker also plays a large role in the flavor of the sides, including the smoked mac 'n' cheese and the green beans. Where Mission BBQ surely shines is in the details; the six sauces to choose from highlight BBQ flavors from across the country, and the desserts rotate with the changing flavors of the season.
Once you settle on a food selection, you must move on to choosing the correct brew to have in hand. The beer selection is best described by the drinks sign hanging above the register, which reads “Two Dollar Boh: $2, Canned Beer: Yes”. Right as you order there is a large ice pit of “man cans” — as owner Steve Newton calls them — the 24-oz. options of which ring up at only $3, and a large selection of 12-oz. local canned beers ranging from $2–$4, including a few from Union and The Brewer’s Art. An evening out here certainly won't burn a hole in your pocket.
Mission BBQ is dedicated to honoring the service men and women throughout America. Owners Bill Kraus and Steve Newton both have family and friends who have served or who are currently serving, and according to them, this is their way of giving back. Look forward to a Veterans Day event on November 11 and many future events that support various military causes including the Wounded Warrior Project.
