Zoning Board Decision Spells More Trouble For Proposed Federal Hill Beer Garden
Plans to bring a large, open-air beer garden to the former site of Turner’s on Cross Street in Federal Hill hit another snag this week when the city’s zoning board only came up with three of the four votes necessary to grant the project conditional approval.
Since the proposed beer garden was already shot down once before, after many of the bar-heavy South Baltimore neighborhood’s residents stepped forward to express concern of overcrowding, parking and excessive drunken buffoonery, a four-vote majority was necessary to move the project forward, according to Baltimore Sun. And that was after the group behind the troubled project made significant changes to its original plan. Those concessions included limiting hours and occupancy, providing valet parking, and planting trees to cut down on noise.
Despite the setback, the beer garden’s backers are pushing ahead with construction, and promising that it will be be open in time for Oktoberfest 2014.
