Axios Wine Celebrates Cal Ripken Jr. With Commemorative Wine
Ripken’s specific, official anniversary date of the record was celebrated at the ballpark during the first week of September. However, on November 1, 2015, Axios Wine is releasing a limited edition “2131” Cabernet to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ripken’s record-breaking streak. Only 2,131 bottles are available.
Retailing at $300 each, numbered bottles will be sold in wood-and-glass cases. The price may seem a little high, but keep in mind that one-third of the proceeds from the sales of the 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will benefit the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing baseball/softball-themed programs that are intended to teach life lessons and help build character for underserved youth.
A limited 100 bottles will be sold at $500 but will also include a Hall of Fame baseball signed by Cal Ripken Jr.
“We have talked about a commercial brand for several years, so in anticipation of the 20th anniversary, we thought the timing was right to create a commemorative wine,” said Gus Kalaris, Axios owner and Ripken Foundation board member. “Meaning “worthy” in Greek, Axios is proud to celebrate an iconic sports-figure, while also supporting a worthy organization.”
Pre-orders are being accepted now and will be first come, first served. For more information or to pre-order the wine, click here.
