How to Spend Labor Day Weekend in Baltimore

Heading to the beach for summer’s unofficial finale may be the traditional way to send off the season, but for those who aren’t beach-bound, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate in and around Charm City.
Maryland Renaissance Festival
Throw on that wench costume and get thee to Crownsville for a giant turkey leg and some mead, or swill some suds and take in the jousting, glassblowing or a Shakespearean show. See the site for details on dates, hours, and ticket purchases. (1821 Crownsville Rd.; 1-800-296-7304)
Cardinal Tavern
Kick off the holiday weekend on Friday, September 2 in a charitable way, drinking for dogs. Cardinal Tavern will be hosting BARCS for a fundraiser to benefit Baltimore’s only open-admission shelter. A portion of all sales will be donated to the organization. (901 S Clinton St.; 410-327-7850)
First Fridays in Fells
Take your happy hour outside for a free concert in Fells featuring Advanced Party Solutions and Starcrush. The final First Friday of the summer starts at 5 pm. (920 S. Broadway)
West Madison Craft Beer and Wine Bar
On Saturday, make it your mission to check out a new spot and pop into West Madison Craft Beer and Wine Bar for creative small plates, cocktails and a concert with Basswood, an acoustic duo whose style combines punk, folk, bluegrass, and rock. (311 W Madison St; 443-938-9109)
Jailbreak Brewing Company
Take the short drive to this brewery for the Labor Day Beer Bash on Saturday and get all packaged beer and growler fills for 20% off as well as happy hour prices on all pints from noon until 3. (9445 Washington Blvd N, Suite F, Laurel, MD; 443-345-9699)
La Folie
The new Canton corner bistro is offering its frosé (frozen rose) for $8 all day Saturday and Sunday until 7:00 and 1/2 price wine carafes. They’ll also open for brunch at 11:00 both days. (2903 O'Donnell St.; 667-212-2112)
Knotty Pine
Few things say “summer” like cracking open some crabs, so celebrate the unofficial last weekend of the season doing just that at Knotty Pine’s final $2 crab Sunday. Crabs start steaming at 2 pm, but get there early to snag a seat to watch the O’s game. (801 S. Conkling St.; 410-534-9701)
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
The days left to take in a game (and a few brews) at OPACY this season are dwindling, but the O’s will be in town taking on the Yankees Friday through Sunday. Have a little one? Sundays feature a postgame running of the bases for all fans under 14. (333 W Camden St.; 410-685-9800)
Mother’s Bar and Grille
Make your Sunday even lazier by not changing out of your PJs and pop into Mother’s Bar and Grille for their semi-annual pajama brunch. All pajama-wearers will get half off their entire check from 9 am - 2 pm. (1113 S Charles St.; 410-244-8686)
Grand Central
Sport your most stylish red, white, and blue, and head to Mt. Vernon’s Grand Central Labor Day party with guest DJ JFell on Sunday night. Smirnoff drinks are $6 all night long with more specials from 9 PM - 11 PM. $3 Cover. (1001 N Charles St.; 410-752-7133)
