The beer is made with industrial hemp, with extractions taken from cannabis mixed into the beer’s brew, lending it an altered flavor profile but no other additional effects. It’s not as unusual as it may sound: cannabis is a close relative of hops, and has a similar flavor at times. Recently, the federal government okayed the sale of Secret Stash IPA outside of the state.
Despite its lack of THC, Dads and Dude’s co-owner Mason Hembree (the “dude” part of the duo) feels that it will help push a national conversation about marijuana legalization. However, seeing as it is only a flavoring agent, rather than an additional drug, and that industrial hemp is already legal, it doesn’t seem like the beer will have much of an effect on marijuana legislation. Instead, it seems like more of a gimmick, albeit a fun and perhaps tasty one.
The brewery has three different beers in its Canna-Beer line, the Secret Stash as well as a Sativa IPA and Indica Double IPA. None of them have active THC.
