Where to Celebrate Valentine's Day in Baltimore
Unless you’ve missed all of those commercials for roses and rings, you know the day of chalky heart-shaped candy is on the horizon. If you love the holiday of love, you’re in luck - there’s an abundance of opportunities to celebrate around the city starting as early as the ninth. However, for those not as excited about Cupid and his arrows, there are also a few spots that are thinking outside of the (oversized shiny heart-shaped) box with some entertaining (and sometimes charitable) Valentine’s Day events as well.
Ikaros
This annual early kickoff to Valentine’s Day on February 9 from 6:30 PM - 9 PM will feature a variety of traditional Greek entrees and starter selections for only $30 per person, along with a cash bar in this classic Greektown restaurant. Sponsored by the the Lord Baltimore Chapter #364 Order of AHEPA, the event aims to raise scholarship funds. To reserve a spot, call the event organizer at 443-286-6605. Ottobar
On February 10 upstairs at Ottobar, DJ Mills will be spinning favorites from Beyoncé, Kanye and Jay-Z for the Bey v. Jay v. Ye Dance Party: Valentine’s Edition. Deep Eddy Lemonade Vodka Drink Specials will be running all night. (2549 N Howard St.; 410-662-0069)
Birroteca Baltimore
From February 10 - 14, Birroteca will be offering cocktail specials as well as chef’s specials like duck fat smashed potatoes with pancetta and leek gravy and a lobster and spaghetti dish for two with melted tomatoes, butter poached lobster, and a sherry cream sauce, alongside cocktail specials. This spot will offer a three course menu featuring a shared appetizer, two entrees, a shared dessert and two glasses of sparkling wine for $50 per couple. The special runs from February 10 - February 14; on Valentine’s Day, a long stem rose will be included as well. (2809 Boston St.; 410-773-9795)
Just a short drive from the city, in Towson, Cunninghams will feature a special prix-fixe menu ($50 pp/$65 with wine pairings) Friday, February 10 through Monday, February 13, along with the normal menu. On Valentine’s Day the restaurant will only offer the special prix fixe menu with a take home treat. (1 Olympic Pl.; 410-339-7730)
On February 11 from 9 PM - 2 AM stop into Pig and Rooster for the Lock & Key Party. At random, ladies will get locks and the guys will get keys to match up and find Mr. or Ms. Right (for tonight?). On February 11, Flavor will be hosting their Lust party, which is open to pairs or solo guests, all of whom will be greeted with a glass of bubbly at the door. The party will feature lust themed cocktails, a chocolate fondue fountain, and music by DJ Kim Brannan. The party starts at 9 PM with a $5 cover until 10 PM and an $8 cover after. On February 11, Grand Central will host its Annual Valentine's Party on both floors with double power hours featuring $3 domestics and rails and music by Vodkatrina. Wear the color to signal your relationship status: red (in a relationship), pink (dating openly), and white (single). $5 cover. (1001 N Charles St.; 410-752-7133)
Not digging Valentine’s Day? Pop into Owl Bar on February 11 for a love bites menu, ice luge, giveaways, and anti-love potions for their Anti-Valentine’s Day party. Bring a picture of your ex for a free Valentine’s Day shot. (1 E Chase St.; 410-347-0888)
From 11:30 AM - 3 PM on February 12, Fells Point Tavern will be hosting Galentine’s Day Brunch with a special brunch menu, bottomless mimosas, bloodys, Natty Bohs, and a surprise cocktail along with goodie bags. On Valentine’s Day, Wine Market will be serving a four course prix fixe dinner for $69 per person, including starters like baked oysters and jalapeño deviled eggs, second course soups and salads, mains including steak, scallops, quail or butternut squash ravioli, and desserts that range from a decadent chocolate terrine with amaretto crumble to a light strawberry moscato sorbet. This Canton corner spot will be featuring a special menu for two on Valentine’s Day for $69.99 with three courses for each and a dessert to share. (2300 Boston St; 410-777-5502)
The three course Valentine’s Day menu at this new-ish seasonal American restaurant on the Square in Canton is $59 per person and includes a bottle of Segura Cava Brut per couple. There are a number of dishes to choose from for each course, but we’re possibly most excited about the shareable C&G Sundae for dessert with housemade chocolate marshmallow and vanilla bean ice cream, Godiva hot fudge, bourbon soaked pecans, sea salt caramel and chantilly creme. The classy yet comfortable spot in Mt. Vernon is offering a prix fixe menu at $85/person ($115 with wine pairings) that includes starters like fried oyster and French onion soup alongside other savory dishes in the second and third courses like lobster ravioli, buttered pappardelle with braised lamb shoulder and shaved ruffle, oven roasted squash with quinoa, and a stuffed chicken with bittersweet mole, saffron rice and avocado. The Valentine’s Day menu at this Brewer’s Hill spot will offer a four-course chef’s tasting menu for $75 plus add-ons like wine pairings and a shellfish course, etc. The menu will only be available on Tuesday, February 14, but those celebrating the weekend prior to the holiday will have the opportunity to check out surprise specials just for that weekend. The Turn House, a traditional American farm to table style restaurant in Columbia, will be serving a special Valentine’s Day dinner menu. The pre-fixe 6 course dinner will feature seasonal dishes for $95 per person. (11130 Willow Bottom Drive, Columbia; 410-740-2096)
For $60 per person ($90 with beer and cocktail pairings), get a creative seven course Valentine's Day dinner at Joe Squared that includes the likes of foie gras, pork belly, and cherry borscht. Tickets must be purchased here. (33 W North Ave.; 410-545-0444)
From 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM, spend Valentine’s Day with Edgar Allan Poe at the Admiral Fell Inn. The interactive show is peppered with humor despite Poe’s reputation for morosity. Tickets are $75.00 and include a welcome glass of champagne, dinner, show, tax, gratuity on meal, iced tea, water and a surprise for ladies in the crowd. Valentine’s Day at Gramercy Mansion starts with butlered hors d’oeuvres followed by a decadent wine-paired seated supper. A portion of all proceeds from the Valentine’s Day event will benefit Children’s Scholarship Fund Baltimore, a privately funded organization providing partial scholarships to low-income families in Baltimore City to help them afford the cost of tuition at the private school of their choice.
