Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite: Where to Celebrate Bastille Day 2017 in Baltimore
The anniversary of storming of the Bastille in 1789 is celebrated each year on July 14. This year’s holiday conveniently falls on a Friday, a night some of us may already dedicate to the uncorking of a bottle or two. This Friday, share that joie de vivre at some of the celebrations planned for the holiday. Vive le France!
Le Bistro Du Village
Formerly known as Crepe Du Jour, this Mt. Washington bistro will feature live jazz music to accompany their traditional French food and drinks. Make reservations at www.lebistroduvillage.com. (1609 Sulgrave Ave.; 410-542-9000)
The Lord Baltimore Hotel has been preparing for months to host one of the city’s largest Bastille Day Celebrations, “Let Us Eat Cake,” on July 14. Start the sophisticated soiree with a three-course prix fixe dinner in The French Kitchen that will focus on some of the most iconic French dishes. Later, move to the hotel’s open air rooftop deck, LB Skybar, for champagne and the cutting of the event’s “pièce de résistance”- an impressive five-tiered cake created by Executive Pastry Chef Mary Elizabeth Plavonich.
Petit Louis Bistro
From 4 - 11 PM, Petit Louis will be hosting a French fete complete with classic French fare and wine as well as live music. Kick off the evening with champagne and complimentary passed hors d’oeuvres outside from 4 PM outside. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant at 410-366-9393. (4800 Roland Ave; 410-366-9393)
If you feel like feasting on French food on Bastille Day without a formal celebration, stop in for some crepes at one of Sofi’s Crepes locations or at Holy Crepe Cafe, or visit other French-inspired spots like Hampden’s go-to BYOB for French cuisine, Aromes (who recently transitioned from a tasting menu to an a la carte menu), or Canton’s La Folie for some steak frites and frose.
