Where to Go for Labor Day Weekend 2017 in Baltimore
Rather than spending Labor Day getting grilled at family cookouts about politics and relationships, or sitting on the Bay Bridge in hours-long traffic to get back from the beach, you can explore a few more mellow ways to round out the official end to the summer.
Bars, Beats, and BBQ
Local non-profit Flow is hosting its first community event this Labor Day in celebration of the release of their first youth-produced mixtape. Check out other local talent like local dancers competing in a “gauntlet-style dance battle” and producers vying for the title of Baltimore’s Best Beatmaker, as well as other musical artists performing recent music. Caterers from Bent Events will be bringing the BBQ and beer from Union Craft Brewing and Monument City will be on tap. Admission is free and all proceeds from food and beverage sales go to support Flow's nonprofit programming. (The Ynot Lot, 4 W. North Avenue)
With a mission of offering free comedy events throughout Baltimore this inaugural event, from August 31 through September 4, features a long list of local comedians at a wide range of venues. Many spots that are hosting like Union Brewery, Five and Dime, Ottobar, Joe Squared, The Crown, and The Windup Space offer booze or brews. Most events are free, though a couple will be ticketed, and there are opportunities at some to meet with the comedians. (Various venues, see site for schedule and details)
Just a short drive (or Light Rail ride) outside of the city, the Maryland State Fair’s last weekend is traditionally Labor Day weekend. Pop up to check out rides and games alongside fair food and drinks from local breweries and wineries. (2200 York Road, 410-252-0200)
Grab cold beers and hot dogs at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for a daytime game against the Yankees starting at 2:05. (333 W Camden St, 410-685-9800)
While this event isn’t necessarily a Labor Day celebration by design, if you’re not having or attending a cookout or picnic we see no reason to not stop into Outpost’s every-Monday Bubbles and Buckets event. Stop in for a bucket of four pieces of fried chicken, 2 biscuits, 2 sides and a bottle of bubbles for $38. (1032 Riverside Ave, 443-388-9113)
Wit on the Water is hosting a Labor Day Pig Roast with a cookout style buffet by Executive Chef Zack Mills along with live music from 2 - 6 pm. Start off with one of their complimentary welcome cocktails. The event is $49/adult, $23/children and tickets can be purchased here. (200 International Drive, 410-576-5800)
