Where to Celebrate Oktoberfest 2017 in Baltimore
Once again, Baltimore Beer Week’s kickoff will coincide with some of the larger Oktoberfest-style events in the city, but in true German tradition, Oktoberfest celebrations are beginning already. Nearly two months of beer swilling and sausage eating? We’re in. Prost!
Birroteca
On September 21, Birroteca will take advantage of the mild fall temps and host their Italian take on Oktoberfest on their patio. This family-style OktoberFeast dinner will fuse together German and Italian cuisines in dishes like beer cheese fonduta bruschetta, schnitzel piccata, choucroute Italiano, and German chocolate cake cannolis. Plenty of pitchers of Oktoberfest style brews like Weihenstephaner Fest, Hofbräuhaus Oktoberfest, and Schlafly Oktoberfest will be poured. The massive annual Oktoberfest celebration continues this year on October 14 at the M&T Bank Stadium Lots with over 150 international, domestic and local Maryland beers as well as domestic wines and schnapps to be sipped or swilled to the backdrop of a variety of oompah and polka bands. In addition to German favorites for purchase a la carte, there are also games (cornhole, tricycle races), contests (beer stein holding, best beer belly, Miss Oktoberfest), as well as giveaways and cash prizes. On Saturday October 21 from 10:30 AM - 9 PM, DBH is hosting its Das Wurst Oktoberfest Block Party featuring live music, “big biers”, a sausage tournament and a sausage eating contest, among other competitions, games, and tournaments. (1542 Light St, 443-708-8854)
The two day celebration in Federal Hill spans from September 23 through September 24 from noon until nine each day. Eighteen Maryland breweries will be pouring and local establishments will be serving German-themed food while live performances will be on hand. Links for ticket details can be found here. This Canton corner spot is hosting a family-friendly Oktoberfest celebration on September 30 with food, an outdoor beer garden, pumpkin painting from 11 AM - 1 PM, and music with a DJ all day and live music from 6 - 8 pm. (3000 O'Donnell St, 410-675-4029)
The Eagle’s head chef, German-born Ed Scholly, will be serving up German fare from September 29 through October 5th with dishes like schnitzle and bratwurst while the bar will be pouring select German beers specially on tap. (2022 N Charles St, 410-200-9858)
