Baltimore's Best Local Fall Beers
Backshore Brewing Company: Up All Nitro Coffee Stout (ABV 8.1% / IBU 36)
While we typically like to sip our Backshore brews over the summer at the brewery’s boardwalk-based hut overlooking the ocean, this dark brew from their Nitro Line series infused with 5 gallons of cold brew espresso (from Coastal Coffee Roasters) seems perfect for firepits and newly-frosty nights of fall.
Evolution Craft Brewing: Jacques au Lantern (ABV 6.3% / IBU 20)
Yes, give all the sighs for the pumpkin ale in the roundup. But, really, this is one of the most well brewed pumpkin ales in the state. This unfiltered amber ale born from a Belgian yeast is a balanced brew that feels like fall in a glass.
Flying Dog: Barrel Aged Gonzo Imperial Porter (ABV 9.2% / IBU 85)
This high ABV brew may not be sessionable, but this rich porter aged in oak whiskey barrels carries notes of vanilla and is ideal for fireside chats or cigar smoking.
Heavy Seas: Peg Leg (ABV 8% / IBU 50)
With a nose of roasted coffee and a dark hue, this brew that’s available year-round is perfect for fall. It’s as ideal for sipping around a campfire as it is for pairing with grilled meats, or even a well-made pizza on a Friday night.
