Baltimore's Best Fall Cocktails

by Jennifer Waldera on Oct 31, 2017 in Roundups

Fall brings out a lot of color, but among drinkers it brings out a good bit of colorful debate. There are the haters and lovers of pumpkin beers, while there are also those who are eager to embrace inky reds in the chilly weather as the rose enthusiasts are still avidly pushing the pink. One thing all imbibers may be able to agree upon is the warmth and goodness of a well-crafted autumnal cocktail. There are more than a few in Baltimore to try - here’s a brief breakdown for some starting points.

B&O American Brasserie
This downtown bar and restaurant routinely crafts some of the top seasonal cocktails in Baltimore. This fall is no different. We’re particularly taken with this one, incorporating multiple liquors and flavors of cranberry and juniper, that will undoubtedly transfer well from fall into the holidays, too.
Down Easter
Scotch, rum, benedictine, cranberry-juniper shrub, lemon and ground juniper

BRIO Tuscan Grille
An Inner Harbor find, this Italian restaurant and bar offers a couple cocktails that are on point for autumn. Even more appealing than their apple flavors are the prices that both clock in under $9.
Apple Crisp Cooler
Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, apple juice, Apple Pucker liqueur, apple butter, apple wedge, cinnamon sugar rim
Caramel Apple Cider Appletini
Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, apple cider, lemon juice, simple syrup, apple slice, caramel and cinnamon sugar rim

Cunningham’s
A short drive out of the city, Cunningham’s is one of a few locally owned spots in the heart of Towson to offer top-notch cocktails.
Forbidden Fruit
Bourbon, apple brandy, cinnamon, walnut, lemon

The Elephant
This midtown spot with an upscale ambiance is a cozy place to settle in for an autumnal tipple.
Apple Martini
Housemade cinnamon apple puree, vodka, fresh lemon juice, cinnamon simple syrup and prosecco

Fogo de Chao
This meat-driven mainstay near the Harbor crafts cocktails for every season. While we’ve adored their spring and summer riffs on sips like the Caipirinha, we brown liquor fans are enticed by this take on an Old Fashioned that combines the flavors of late summer with fall.
Caramelized Pineapple Old Fashioned
Bulleit Rye Whiskey, muddled caramelized pineapple, orange, Luxardo cherry, served over ice

Gunther & Co.
We loved the tiki drinks that Gunther put out this summer, and their fall cocktail menu is just as well-crafted. The plum shrub in this one makes it our favorite from their list.
Free Fallin’
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, plum shrub, Lillet Blanc, lime juice, sparkling water

R. Bar
The centerpiece of R. House, R. Bar, is constantly creative. This fall cocktail is in the classic tiki style with a fall twist using homemade pumpkin seed orgeat.
Mai Beating Heart
Don Q Anejo Rum, Baltimore Whiskey Company Ginger Apple Liqueur, District Ginger Shrub, and that homemade orgeat

Wit & Wisdom
One of the best spots to grab a drink and a water view, Wit & Wisdom also offers a long list of autumn inspired cocktails to sip at the bar, or on the patio in the waning warm weather.
Pilgrim’s Shadow
El dorado rum, Montenegro amaro, dolin blanc, aztec chocolate bitters
