While whiskey seems to steal the spotlight in terms of in-demand liquor, even gin and vodka seem to outshine tequila when it comes to cocktails and straight sips on menus around the city. For those with an affinity for the agave-based beverage, here are a few spots that stock an enviable selection of the somewhat elusive spirit.

 

This Fells Point restaurant with its Mexican-inspired menu has a list of tequilas as impressive as its waterfront view. With three pages dedicated to blanco, reposado, and anejo, as well as a fine list of beer and tequila pairings, there’s no shortage of shot or sipping options. (1629 Thames St; 410-563-8800)

 

Flights of half ounce pours are the only way to ever explore the entire extensive list of 130 bottles of tequila at this Federal Hill hotspot. Already have a preference? Sip it solo or have it mixed into a cocktail with housemade mixes and fresh juices. (1032 Light St; 410-576-3938)

 

If you haven’t had the chance to sample tequila’s close relative, mezcal, a trip to Clavel is imperative. This Remington taqueria’s menu itself is an educational experience dedicated to mezcal with offers of flights or individual pours, but the popular spot also hosts one hour mezcal experiences in its tasting room for $35 (with a portion of proceeds donated to sustainable agave farming and jimador’s rights). This downtown spot is one block from the Inner Harbor in the lively Power Plant Live!, a collection of restaurants and bars and a venue for outdoor events spring through fall.
