Where to Drink Whiskey in Baltimore

by Jennifer Waldera on Jul 24, 2018 in Roundups

With production of whiskey at an all-time contemporary high from the influx of distilleries like Baltimore Whiskey Company, Sagamore, and Old Line, there’s currently no shortage of brown liquor in Baltimore. That said, given the city’s history of remaining “wet” during Prohibition, there’s nearly always been whiskey to be found on the ready in Baltimore. Here, we highlight a handful of spots to comfortably sip on various versions of the brown beverage straight, on the rocks, or with some other imparted spirits and flavors.

It might be unexpected to find a local place known for pizza and playing sports on their televisions to have a quality whiskey selection, but this award-winning Boston Street spot delivers. Bonus points for knowledgeable bartenders which, surprisingly, isn’t actually how they came about their name.... (2218 Boston St; 410-534-2337)

Birds Of A Feather
This Fells Point mainstay is a no-frills spot best suited for straight sipping. Their selection is impressive yet affordable. The digs are divey, but cozy. (1712 Aliceanna St; 410-675-8466)

An enviable selection of whiskey served up alongside smokey BBQ - what else could you want? A pup-friendly patio makes this place the trifecta of perfection. (1601 Union Ave; 443-948-5590)

This bar opened years ago on Broadway, but eventually shuttered and moved less than a couple blocks away on Thames. While the concept remains the same, the management changed and this pre-Prohibition style spot now serves up arguably some of the best cocktails in Fells Point no matter the spirit, and with the best of service. Given the name, of course, whiskey drinks are the go-to here. (1629 Thames St; 443-438-3455)

This is the spot to get Sagamore cocktails, alongside deliciousness like Southern Fried Sundays (fried chicken and whiskey? yes.) or alongside their eastern shore and southern inspired brunch, lunch, and dinner menus. (225 E Cromwell St; 443-662-8000)
