Green space is sometimes in short supply in a city, but Patterson Park is one of the few spots on the southeast side of the city to enjoy an expanse of land. What better way to wrap up a run, tennis match, or a walk with the pooch than at a nearby watering hole?
This corner bar on the cusp of Upper Fells Point and Butcher’s Hill is a neighborhood staple. Sporting a jukebox and pool tables, it’s the place to go for some of the cheapest drinks in town. Food options are minimal, but feel free to bring your own. (2200 Gough St; 410-276-9186)
This lowkey spot on Eastern Ave is branded as an artisanal pizza joint, but apps like vegetarian chicken nuggets, vegan fried edamame and arancini that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives elevate the tavern’s pizza-focused menu. Their extensive list of beer bottles and cans will, indeed, make you just clap your hands, and their craft cocktails are both creative and affordable. Keeping it casual, Johnny Rad’s also houses a few arcade games as well. (2108 Eastern Ave, 443-759-6464)
Cozy dive bars are some of Baltimore’s best spots to sip or swill, but their prevalence is dwindling. Roman’s, just east of the park, is one of the most comfortable spots in the area to settle in for a brew or two and some of the most affordable food to be found. (2 S Decker Ave; 410-342-5226)
Situated on the south side of the park, Sharky’s sports a solid menu of reasonably priced drinks and food. We’re fans of swinging by to nosh on their Natty Boh Brats to soak up some suds. (2819 Eastern Ave, 410-534-1051)
Elevated dishes like truffle fries, an impressive mac and cheese, and even brunch offerings adorn the menu in this small spot. Snake Hill also offers two happy hours each day to enjoy their long list of bottles and cans as well as wine and cocktails. (418 S Clinton St; 410-469-9003)
