Best Bars: Thames Street Oyster House
After a few false starts, Thames Street finally has a legit seafood house, and the name’s damn easy to remember, too. Oysters, clams and claws from the downstairs raw bar are complemented by craft beer on tap, classic cocktails your grandpop would order and boozy oyster shooters (Natty Boh, Old Bay rim, lemon wedge) he probably wouldn’t.
Vintage oyster cans, used as decorations and check holders, are a spirited touch, appreciated in waves by a crowd slightly older than found at most Fells joints. A sign stuck to the mirror behind the bar says it all, behavior-wise: Rule #1: Bartender is always right. Rule #2: If bartender is wrong, see Rule #1 (1728 Thames St.; 443-449-7726).
