It just got easier to give the gift of beer. We have always been big fans of BeerGivr. Launched last year, the innovative website allows you to buy friends a round of drinks even if you’re not out with them at the bar. The process has always been pretty simple: enter your phone number, your friends’ numberand the amount you want to send over. The lucky recipient gets a text with a gift code, which he or she can currently redeem for money off a tab at 15 locations (and growing) around town.

Prior to the most recent update, a bartender or server had to use a smartphone QR code scanner in order to redeem the gift. Now, only one device is needed. The gift-getter pulls up the gift-code screen and hands their phone to the staff member, who simply chooses the “Manual” method and types in their unique bar ID. Voila, the coupon is redeemed, without the need for a busy bartender or server to break their stride by searching for an extra device.

The BeerGivr folks call this “single device redemption.” We call it a little slice of genius. Next time you’re looking for a good present, remember to follow their mantra: Birthday Cards are boring. Beer is not.
