Cocktail Recipe: Mesquite Bacon Julep at Bad Decisions
Thursday, March 22 marks the occasion of the 26th Bacon and Beer Happy Hour at Fells Points’ Bad Decisions. The full menu is characteristically bacon-o-licious, with a food theme of “fixing” chain restaurant dishes with the addition of crispy pork (bacon with your lettuce wraps, anyone?). On the drink side, there are a slew of sips with porcine enhancements.
We needled owner John Reusing for instructions on how to make one on our own to hold us over through the month until the next Bad Decisions event. He graciously provided info on the Mesquite Bacon Julep. Check it out, below.
Mint Bacon Julep
1 oz. Balcones Brimstone Corn Whiskey*
1 oz. good quality whiskey
Bar spoonful Demerara sugar
Fresh mint sprigs
Add a sprig of mint and the other ingredients to a shaker, muddle lightly, and strian into double rocks glass full of crushed ice. Garnish with another mint sprig and a large slice of crispy bacon. Sprinkle the top with more Demerara sugar.
*If you can't find Brimstone a smokey bourbon would suffice, but won’t bring the full mesquite flavor
