Celebrate War of 1812 Bicentennial with the Blue Angels at Fort McHenry, June 16-17
It was 200 years ago that the newly formed United States declared war against Great Britain, launching the War of 1812, and eventually inspiring our national anthem. The successful defense of Baltimore harbor led Francis Scott Key to compose his famous poem, and on Saturday and Sunday, June 16-17, the Friends of Fort McHenry will host the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels for a special airshow during two days of fighter jet and food and drink fun, at an event dubbed “History Takes Flight.”
On Saturday, June 16, those who wish to have the best view of the impressive aerobatic team can spring for a $150 ticket, which includes a seat at a catered lunch with beer and wine served atop the ramparts. On Sunday, June 17, the show will return during a slightly less fancy event for $75 per person ($25 children 14 and under), with a boxed lunch instead of a buffet (but still includes plenty of beer and wine). Each day’s festivities begin at 11 AM and go through 4 PM.
