A Taste of Two Cities: Food Truck Showdown, Jun 23
The Nationals may be in town to battle the Orioles this weekend, but there’s another Baltimore/D.C. showdown taking place. On Saturday, June 23, 20 food trucks from the nation’s capital will descend on the Westport Waterfront, where they’ll be met by 20 of our own mobile food vendors for A Taste of Two Cities. A culinary battle will ensue, with the happy side effect of an all-day street food and drink fest.
From 11 AM–7 PM, the carts will be set up on the water in Balt-Wash-Balt-Wash formation, offering eats of all kinds. At the end of the day, the people’s choice award will be announced, and a six-person celebrity panel will decide on which city gets to take home the Mayor’s Cup, due to be presented by Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
Drinks available for sale to wash down all the good food will include beer (Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, Blue Moon, Miller Lite; $5–$6), wine ($6) and orange crushes and margaritas ($7), according to organizer Damian Bohager, proprietor of The Silver Platter.
Just like the Nats/O’s faceoff, this affair is slated to recur, and will likely become an annual event. Bmore may have the home field advantage this time around, but we have less than a third the total number of D.C.’s food trucks, so it’s bound to be a fierce battle. Admission is free, so come out tomorrow to chow down for your city. Check out a list of who'll be plating up, below.
