DuClaw Names Charity & Release Date for 2012 H.E.R.O. Beer
Back in May, DuClaw announced Vincent and Suzanne Powers as winners of this year’s H.E.R.O. homebrew contest, and set about creating the couple’s Chocolate Chipotle Stout as a limited-edition release in its production brewery.
We chatted with the beer’s creators and DuClaw founder David Bernstein and found out all about the beer’s inspiration and the judging process that led to its selection as top choice. What we didn’t know is what nonprofit would benefit from the sales of the label, created specifically for charity — but now we do.
Every penny from sales of Chipotle Chocolate Stout will go to the Alysha Miller Harris Baby Fund, which benefits the (as yet unborn) baby of a brewer at New Hampshire’s Redhook Brewery who died when a plastic keg he was cleaning unexpectedly exploded. Though this isn’t local, DuClaw has this to say:
“[I]t was set up to help a member of the brewing community, and at the end of the day we all face the same hurdles and dangers in this business, so drink up, help out, be a H.E.R.O.”
H.E.R.O. 2012 will be released on October 24, and we’re looking forward to a chance to follow those instructions, enjoying tasty stout while helping out.
