Blue Pit BBQ & Whiskey Bar Coming Together in Hampden
Though it’s been in the works since last October, Blue Pit BBQ & Whiskey Bar, a new barbecue, beer and bourbon bar that’s coming together in Hampden appears to be inching closer to an official opening.
Former Brewers Art chef Dave Newman is the brains behind the new venture, which according to City Paper’s Ryan Detter, is currently open in soft-launch mode. That means that it’s just drinks at the bar for the time being. Kitchen and dining room operations are expected to roll out in the weeks ahead. And all systems should be a go by summer.
The minimalist, industrial space extends a warm and cozy vibe with dim lights, retro fixtures and chalkboard menus and draft lists mounted on the walls. While details on the eats are still a little up in the air — plans call for serving smoked meats and barbecue specialties in styles and traditions from all over the US — the drink program is already in place.
The bar has six taps, and will also feature deep stock of canned craft brews, plus more than 40 different types of bourbon. The cocktail list is currently still in development, but City Paper tasters vouch for the Howling Man, a smoky Margarita bastardization that’s made with Islay Scotch and reposado tequila.
