It's Off to the Races at the 5th Annual Decanter Wine Festival, April 18-19

It’s time to pull out the fancy hats and seersucker suits as the 5th Annual Decanter Wine Festival descends on Pimlico Race Course on April 18 and 19. The celebration of wine and racing, sponsored by the Maryland Wineries Association in partnership with the Maryland Jockey Club, offers festival goers the chance to sample a wide variety of wines, mead and cider from over 20 Maryland wineries while enjoying live horse racing (and betting) from the 2nd Floor Grandstand.

A variety of food vendors will be on hand like Caribbean cuisine specialists Talk of Di Town II and the cleverly named guacamole maker #Juan Guacamole in addition to authentic Greek fare from Greek on the Street Food Truck and sweets perfect for pairing with wine from Sweet Treat Chocolate Shoppe.

While sipping and noshing, wine enthusiasts can also browse crafts including jewelry, candles, home goods and hats (of course!) to the backdrop of live blues, classic covers, folk music and more.

General admission tickets are $30, but for $20 more, you can upgrade to The Decanter Pass, a VIP ticket that ups the ante with an upgraded wine glass, a 6-bottle wine carrier and samples of exclusive Decanter wines from each attending winery including new releases, limited productions and premium label wines.

Oh, and we were serious about the garb. Why not dress up in your race day best? As an incentive, there will be a “Best-Dressed” contest each day of the festival for both men and women. Winners will receive two tickets to a future Maryland Wine event and a pair of tickets to the Black-Eyed Susan Flute Club concert. So the equation looks like this: fancy clothes = potential for more wine. Everyone wins, right?

On-site parking is free, and this event takes place rain or shine. For more information or to purchase tickets, head to decanterwinefestival.com or call 410-252-9463.
