Best Bars: Joe Squared
Known far and wide (by B'more standards) for its quadrilateral pies, Joe Squared is the MICA bar, frequented by bespectacled art students with impressive Central Perk-esque loyalty. But it’s got much more to offer than some wack sitcom café — in addition to being a universally hearted pizzeria, Squared is also a swell place to drink, with bartenders much warmer than comparable places that rely on college kids to keep the lights on.
Its location in the burgeoning Station North arts district translates to fair prices for craft beer (look for Flying Dog or Dogfish Head by the pitcher) and comparably calibrated food and wine. Local art openings and concerts are other draws for the brand, which has a second location in Power Plant. The 4–7 PM happy hour sees all kinds of specials throughout the week, from half-off wine bottles to dollar-off drinks (133 W. North Ave.; 410-545-0444).
