Kinetic Sculpture Race Reception & Fundraiser at Mr. Rain's, May 4

Baltimore is home to many traditions, but certainly one of the wildest is the Kinetic Sculpture Race hosted by the American Visionary Arts Museum. Where else could you go to see human-powered sculptures racing up Federal Hill and through sand and mud in Patterson Park all for the honor of the coveted Next-to-the-Last award? This unique event would not be possible without the support of the community through patronage of the AVAM throughout the year and the associated fundraising events.

On Friday, May 4, Mr. Rain’s Fun House, located at the top of the AVAM, is hosting one of the year's best . Drink Baltimore will be sponsoring a private reception on the restaurant’s balcony, beginning at 6 PM, which will highlight some of well-known Chef Bill Buzinski and Beverage Director Perez Kelbahn’s creations. A series of Latin influenced hors d’oeuvres and a flight fof Ilegal Mezcal cocktails will be served. Tickets are just $30 per person, and proceeds will benefit future Kinetic Sculpture Races.

Klebahn is known for his hand-crafted cocktails such as the Scarlett Street (foie gras-infused Four Roses Yellow Label Bourbon, pineapple-infused Campari, Dolin White Vermouth), so be prepared for libations that will tickle your wildest imagination. The price of the ticket also includes a sneak preview of several sculptures competing in the race before they are tested to their limits the next day, which is sure to earn you B'more bragging rights.

Guests interested in delving more deeply into the cuisine of the Fun House can purchase a $50 ticket to the five-course Latin-inspired dinner immediately following the reception. Additional themed cocktails will also be available á la carte ($8-$14). Dinner will be served in the Fun House dining room where your eyes can also feast on the whimsical decor that pulls inspiration from the eclectic feel of the AVAM. A $70 combo ticket is available to guests who wish to attend both the reception and the dinner (save $10).

The following day, Saturday, May 5, is the 14th Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race, so be sure to make your way back downtown and pick a spot along the route to enjoy the show. To purchase tickets in advance, call 443-524-7379.
